Troubleshooting
This is a general troubleshooting guide for APU and TLSense routers. This guide lists popular problems and quick ways to recover.
TLsense router doesn't boot
If your TLsense router stopped booting, you should connect a kayboard and a screen with an HDMI cable. From here you will be able to see the boot procedure or enter to BIOS. You can't enter to BIOS from the serial port like on APU.
Press F11 during the first few seconds of booting to see the Boot Menu.
APU router doesn't boot
If your APU router stopped booting after a system upgrade or power loss you should connect with a Serial Cable and check what errors you are getting. Often it's possible to recover by following the instructions on the screen or typing a few commands.
To connect from Windows follow these instructions. For MacOS follow these instructions. For Linux use either "screen" or "putty".
During the first few seconds of the Boot procedure you can press F10 to see the boot menu.
The recording below shows the standard boot procedure and the BIOS settings.
On OPNsense and pfSense you can often restore system to factory defaults (see below).
OPNSense - restore factory defaults
If you have made a configuration mistake on OPNsense and are unable to access the web interface, you can recover by restoring the settings to factory default.
To do that on APU router you have to use a serial cable. On TLSense use an HDMI cable.
See the full procedure below.
Note, when you restore settings to factory default, LAN will be assigned to port 0 (igb0) and WAN to port 1 (igb1). This is the opposite of how we typically configure routers. You can reconfigure it by selecting "1) Assign interfaces" or simply connect your cables in the opposite way and reconfigure it through the web interface.
pfSense - reset to factory defaults
If you have made a configuration mistake on pfSense and are unable to access the web interface, you can recover by restoring the settings to factory default.
To do that on APU router you have to use a serial cable. On TLSense use an HDMI cable.
Select "4) Reset to factory defaults" and that's it. See the recording below.
